たとえばピアノやバレエのように、サーフィンの島ハワイ生まれのジュリと姉エミリのお稽古ごとはサーフィンでした。放課後や休日には父母に連れられて島のどこかのビーチでお稽古三昧。そしてその才能が開花するにはそれほど時間はかかりませんでした。日本のツアーに本格参戦して2年。はじめの年は姉を追いかけるようにファイナルランク８位につけましたが、翌2017年はエミリの運転する車に乗ってツアーを転戦。試合ごとに洗練されていくジュリのサーフィンはメディアの話題にのぼりました。そのレールワークもさることながら、メンズ顔負けのリエントリーを繰り出す姿に誰もが度肝を抜かされました。最終戦。雨の仙台新港。初の姉妹ファイナルを演じたことも、プロツアーの歴史に残る名勝負でした。そして手にした2017年グランドチャンピオントロフィー。 それは、姉のエミリと切磋琢磨した証でもあります。まだ16歳。これからの可能性も未知数です。

Just like everyone try ballet or piano lessons when you are little in mainland, Julie & her older sister Emily learned surfing because they were born in Hawaii, the island of Surfing. Their parent took them everywhere after school & weekends and it didn’t take too long for them to start winning contests. It has been 2 years ever since they decided to surf in JPSA tour. She was ranked 8th the first year, but 2nd year, she did really well. Julie got Japanese driving license & took care of Emily during the contest season. She was only 16 & young enough to learn / improve every heat. Media raved about her precise rail work & vertical reentry. The season end with both sisters going against each other, in the final. It was rainy Sendai, and first time in the pro tour history that sisters are in the same final. She won the title & became the youngest champ ! Who knows what will bring to her in 2018 , she is only 16 .
