たとえばピアノやバレエのように、サーフィンの島ハワイ生まれのジュリと姉のエミリのお稽古ごとはサーフィンでした。放課後や休日には父母に連れられて島のどこかのビーチでお稽古三昧。そしてその才能が開花するにはそれほどの時間はかかりませんでした。日本のツアーに本格参戦して２年。試合ごとに洗練されていくジュリのサーフィンはメディアの話題にのぼりました。そのレールワークもさることながら、メンズ顔負けのリエントリーを繰り出す姿に誰もが度肝を抜かされました。最終戦。雨の仙台新港。初の姉妹ファイナルを演じたことも、プロツアーの歴史に残る名勝負でした。そして手にした2017年グランドチャンピオントロフィー。それは姉のエミリと切磋琢磨した証であります。まだ16歳の若きチャンプの誕生でした。翌年からはコンペティターとしてのステップアップを目指し、エミリとともに世界を駆け巡りました。日の丸を背負い表彰台に立つことも幾度かあったかけがえのない経験でしたが、コロナ禍を経て、ジュリはホノルルでのライフスタイルに戻ることを決め、“楽しむ”サーフィンにスイッチしました。そうして今は父が経営するホノルルのウクレレショップ『Puapua』で働き、時にホテルのステージに立ち、笑顔でウクレレを奏でながら歌を唄うパフォーマンスを披露しています。ウクレレとサーフボード。シンガー／サーファーになる夢に向かって日々邁進中です。

Just like everyone try baller or piano lessons when you are little in mainland, Julie & her sister Emily learned surfing because they are born Hawaii, the island of Surfing. Their parent took them everywhere after school & weekends and it didn’t take too long for them to start winning contests. It has been 2 years ever since they decided to surf in 2017 JPSA tour. Julie was only 16 & young enough to learn / improve every heat. Media raved about her precise rail work & vertical reentry. The season end with both sisters going against each other, in the final. It was rainy Sendai, and first time in the pro tour history that sisters are in the sane final. She won the title & became the Champ when she was only 16 years old. From the following year, she and Emily traveled around the world, aiming to step up to the next level as competitors. She made on to the podium few times, but after the Corona Disaster, Julie decided to return to her Honolulu lifestyle and switch to surfing for "fun”. She now works at her father's ukulele store in Honolulu, Puapua, and sometimes performs on stage at hotels playing the ukulele and singing songs with a smile on her face. Ukulele and surfboard.
